Zhang Fei, a prominent figure in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, first appears in Chapter , when he answers the call to arms to suppress the Yellow Turban Rebellion.

Known for his fierce temper, unparalleled bravery, and booming voice, Zhang Fei was a formidable warrior and loyal oath brother of Liu Bei and Guan Yu. Their bond, sworn in the Peach Garden Oath, cemented their lifelong commitment to restoring the Han Dynasty.

Zhang Fei wielded a long spear with exceptional skill and was renowned for his intimidating presence on the battlefield. Despite his boisterous and often crude demeanor, he was a skilled strategist and tactician, capable of employing cunning maneuvers to defeat his enemies. He was eventually assassinated by his own subordinates due to his tendency to punish them severely after bouts of heavy drinking.
